It's not a catastrophe or an unqualified success, Don't Worry, Darling.

Let us, if we can, set aside all the many side issues that surrounding the buildup to the Don't Worry Darling premiere in Venice. Since the movie has been aired, perhaps we can just concentrate on it, which is neither a success nor a failure. Olivia Wilde, the director, has created an obvious and sporadically fascinating sci-fi thriller that heavily appropriates elements from many superior works yet manages to employ them successfully. Until then, at least. We presumably sense it because we've watched The Stepford Wives, The Truman Show, and other films and television programmes that depict a seemingly impeccable, if outdated, system for life that hums with a dark, invisible force. Without much restyling, those inspirations are clearly visible in Wilde's film. Even so, the movie looks good and features some solid acting.
